From the Van Cleef & Arpels Bals de Légende collection, this dial is a tribute to the famous Black & White Ball held by Truman Capote in 1966. It is rendered in onyx, motherof-pearl marquetry and gold sculpting, and contains the brand’s exclusive 24-hour Poetic Complication caliber. The brand has introduced both a jewelry and watch collection to commemorate the famous costume balls of the twentieth century, and also commissioned a book on the topic – Bals: Legendary Costume Balls of the Twentieth Century – published by Assouline and written by British author Nicholas Foulkes. The Bals de Légende collection debuted in January at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva with four pieces, each named for a famous ball: Palais d’Hiver, Bal du Siècle, Black & White and the Proust Ball. Each depicts dancers and scenes from the balls, rotating on the inner disk of the dial, driven by the brand’s proprietary Automatic 24-hour movement.
